My Horses
|

Derby is a 30 year old TB/Quarter cross. He was purchased for
my daughter several years back and has turned out to be the best horse
I have. When we first saw him he was rail thin with horrible sores
and sad eyes. But he had a great disposition and despite being in
his early twenties (estimated by the vet) we bought him. After fattening
him up and healing his sores and spirit we discovered that at some
time in his life he had obviously had quite a bit of training. He
knew how to side pass, leg yield, tuck up into a nice frame, jump,
and could be ridden English or western with ease. (photo

Sparky - an extremely cute and sweet late teens pony. Not only
is he cute as a button but is extemely sweet and easy to handle--you
can lead him around the pasture with one finger behind his ear!
He's done gymkhana and jumps - all around good pony.

Sugarloaf
Jackie - died suddenly February 26th 2005. She was a 20
year old registered TB ex-race horse mare and mother of Pumpernickel
Penny & Gingerbread. She was my main mount and my favorite despite
being a difficult horse in the beginning for a variety of reasons.
Raced as a 2 year old before graveling as a 3 year old and then
converted to broodmare status Sugar had difficulties socializing
with other horses. She didn't seem to understand the more subtle
signals of dominance and as a result when in a herd setting she
got pretty beat up. I got her as a green broke 12 year old who had
terrible ground manners. After a very intense and informative 5
day clinic with Clinton Anderson (the famous DownUnder
Horsemanship trainer) we successfully adjusted her atitude and
she became a wonderful all around horse. I rode her on trails and
did some low-level eventing on until she started showing some weakness
in her hocks then retired her to broodmare status where she produced
2 beautiful fillies - Pumpernickel Penny and Gingerbread. (photo
